We were born into a war and born for combat, as Pope Leo XIII states in his encyclical “Sapientiae Christianae” (Christians as Citizens). This war is spiritual and whether we like it or not it is going on around us. If we do not arm ourselves with virtue and fight, we will lose, as there is no neutral ground. As Soldiers of Christ, we need to put on the armor of God and enter into battle for the salvation of our soul and souls around us. Both St. Peter and St. Paul in their letters illustrate the Christian life as a battle against sins of the flesh, the world and satan.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 “For though we live in the world we are not carrying on a worldly war, for the weapons of our warfare are not worldly but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”
2 Timothy 2:3-4 “Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him.”
1 Peter 5:8-9 “Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.”
As Knights of the Precious Blood, we have chosen these virtues to live by and fulfill our duties as soldiers of Christ.
